a post!

Hot damn! A post! I've been meaning to post to this blog; so much has happened in the last couple of months. So here's my spur of the moment stab. If you read each of these points like 4 or 5 times, it would take about the same time as if I wrote a paragraph posting on each one... :)

-went down to Portland for about a week, played board games up the wazoo with George and my old co-worker Scott and a guy we play World of Warcraft with named Andrew and Amy, visited OMSI and saw a cool Animation exhibit, and had dim sum and Than Thaos with Colin and Diana.
-a student of mine was killed in a car accident on the day that it snowed in Seattle. It shook up the whole education program and was just two weeks before finals when everyone was already slightly stressed... the toughest part for me was knowing that I would've gotten to know him over the next year or so...
-I'm in a fantasy NBA league with other people from my college, and I'm totally kicking ass even though I only know one of my players. Random draft for the win!
-the Xbox 360 is out, though I have no intention of getting it.
-I'm starting to nail down what my dissertation will be. Cooperation and negotiation in World of Warcraft or other MMOG.
-we got a funk compilation from the library and it is super groovy.
-Thought Harry Potter 4 wasn't as good as 3.

Doom Roguelike

OMG!

This little roguelike game (in other words, nethack-like -- turn-based, overhead, ascii text graphics) is amazing in that it successfully captures the feel of both nethack AND doom, especially with the music and sound effects from Doom. Even though it is turn-based like nethack, it still feels like an action game.

School to start soon

So another school year is about to start. I finally got appointed to a graduate student position so I don't have to accrue more student loans! I'm a TA for the technology course all teachers in training have to take. Should be pretty good.

A couple of weeks ago, George and my high school friend Grey came up to Seattle and we attended a mini-gaming convention hosted by a couple of Wizards of the Coast employees. You may remember me mentioning it last year. Anyway, it was great fun and we played a lot of DnD Miniatures and board games. The weekend went by a bit too quickly, however, and we didn't really get to hang out much other than attending the con.

WoW battlegrounds are out

So, I've been pretty much busy for the last 6 months with school and World of Warcraft when not doing school work. It explains the lack of posting here. This week they introduced special arenas for player v. player combat. The game has a completely new dimension to it, almost feeling like a fps in the small 10 v. 10 capture-the-flag battleground. See you all some time next year... heh.

gamer in China gets life sentence for killing fellow gamer over virtual item

The story is sad, sad... after reading it though, I wonder if I am even sadder since the first thing that popped in my mind was: "why the hell did he try to put his pants on before defending himself??"

Wow

Blogger's features seemed to have advanced a lot in the last two years. Maybe we should reconsider using this?
